SMS Text Message Marketing - Give Your Business An Edge!
SMS Text Message Marketing is all the rage right now for small businesses to promote their products and services. Emails have fallen out as the internet marketing method of choice simply because there is so much spam these days no one reads their emails. But everyone will read a text message when they get it because they think an incoming text message must be from one of their friends or family. Studies have shown that almost 99% of people read their text messages within minutes of knowing they received one. Small businesses can send their 'texting list' messages offering special promotions to bring in customers.
As stated above email marketing is dead and SMS text message marketing is the new King! Think about when you get a SMS text message. Unless you are very untypical, you will open SMS messages a far greater percentage of times than emails. What is more, you will be more likely to act on the contents of the message if you do click through. Marketers still have to do the job of creating the right offer, and selling you on it in the short space they have available, but the first goal has been achieved by getting you to read the initial message.
The best way to utilize text message marketing is to setup a campaign with a company that offers the service to small businesses. A website isn't actually necessary, but it will be very much to your advantage to have one because a percentage of your subscribers will also search for you on the regular web. What you definitely do need is a website optimized for the cell phone and other hand head devices. Mobile websites should be as light and easy to load as possible, and a prominent click to call button will always increase conversion rates.
A well run provider will either send out the text messages for you based on the type of campaign you want to run or provide you with access to a back office where you can setup and run the campaign yourself. These are becoming more common, and if you can find the right one you can benefit from lower prices under long term contract. Unlike emails SMS messages do come with a price, although the point is moot really as email auto responder services charge a monthly fee. In any case, well targeted SMS will eclipse email every time in open rates, responsiveness, and potential reward.
Remember, as with any marketing campaign you don't want to over do it. Meaning, don't send so many text messages that your list will start to block you because you are becoming an annoyance. Make sure that when you do send a message that it is something of genuine importance, like a temporary price cut on a popular line, a clearance sale giving temporary bargains, or new stock arriving which is still in short supply. If you follow this rule, the recipient will be grateful that you have bothered to tell them what they needed to know. You don't want to be sending messages that will just encourage people to opt out of receiving any more.
While the most effective use of SMS text message marketing is to send promotions to your existing customer base you can also use this method to gain new customers. The most widely used tool to do this is the QR or quick response code, which is a pattern that can be scanned into a smart cell phone. Your advertising campaign needs to encourage the new prospect to scan the code, which should take them to a page on your mobile website with some kind of special offer. Once they have opted in, they have agreed to receive any further mobile marketing SMS.
